South Commuter Low Impact Development Detention Basin

Project Description

Earthwise Civil Solution has been contracted by NAU to work on the development of the P62 Low Impact Development (LID) detention basin to increase stormwater retention and decrease the impacts of flooding on downstream infrastructure.

The NAU South Commuter parking lot, P62, is a major contributor to impervious runoff into Sinclair Wash, as determined by Dr. Adam Bringhurst of NAU and the NAU Facility Services. The existing stormwater infrastructure feeding P62 runoff into Sinclair Wash is a potential site for the implementation of LID basins to reduce the downstream flood impact by increasing the peak flow lag time and promoting groundwater recharge through detention.

What is LID?

A Low Impact Development (LID) detention basin refers to a stormwater management design that temporarily holds and slowly releases runoff from impervious surfaces like parking lots. These basins promote natural infiltration rates and water quality.
