Final Design

Our final design implements three modifications.  As seen on the left, There are half donuts shaped dampers made out of a special material called Sorbothane. Sorbothane allows for damping of a wide range of frequencies rather than one target frequencies that a tuned mass damper would correct.  By creating angle aluminum ribs for supports, the stiffness was increased  thus resulting in a frequency shift to more desirable rangers. The third modification was an adjustment to the mounting locations. The mount modifications also increased the stiffness and the combination of the three modifications result in a Big Beam Compressor that can be mapped.

Overall Improvments

The Bill of Materials shown above, lists the price per subassembly and the total price of each.

This graph gives a visual representation of the improvements that we made to the BBC.  Notice that the frequencies have been in crease the magnitudes of the vibrations have been decrease.

This plot shows the measure stiffness from before and after our modifications.  Notice that there is a 3 fold increase in stiffness.
