Physical Separation

This section evaluates the physical separation alternatives for the treatment train. This section is broken down into physical screening and fine screening. The process is essential as it removes large debris from the influent water such as garbage, branches, and other material that can harm equipment in the AWPF.

Physical Screening Alternatives

The physical screening alternatives that were evaluated were the FlexRake FPFS Thru-Bar Cleaning Fine Screen and the Duperon Self-Cleansing Trash Rack. These alternatives are shown in the figures below.

Fine Screening Alternatives

Fine screening alternatives that were evaluated were the HUBER Fine Screen STEP SCREEN SSV and Johnson Vee-Wire Flat Panel Wedge Wire Screens. These alternatives are shown in the figure below.

Physical Separation Scoring Criteria

Each alternative for physical separation was given a score from one to three. One being the least suitable alternative and three being the most suitable from the given criteria. The following table provides how each criteria was scored with the reasoning. It also provides the reasoning for the weighting of each criterion.

Physical Screening Decision Matrix

Using the scoring criteria for physical separation, the decision matrix for physical screening was created to find the most suitable alternative for the treatment train. The decision matrix below is a simplified decision matrix, you can find the complete matrix in the final report, Appendix G: Scoring, Weighting, and Decision Matrix for Physical Screening.

Fine Screening Decision Matrix

Using the scoring criteria for physical separation, the decision matrix for fine screening was created to find the most suitable alternative for the treatment train. The decision matrix below is a simplified decision matrix, you can find the complete matrix in the final report, Appendix K: Scoring, Weighting, and Decision Matrix for Fine Screening.
